If I could make my pet understand one thing, it would be how much they matter without ever trying.
They don’t earn love by being useful. They don’t prove their worth through productivity or consistency. They exist and that has always been enough. I wish they could know that every quiet presence, every small habit, every ordinary moment they share with me carries more weight than they realise.
I would want them to understand that when I’m quiet, I’m not distant from them. Sometimes I’m just tired in ways they can’t see. That their nearness helps more than they’ll ever know, even when I don’t have the energy to show it clearly.
I’d tell them that they’ve taught me something rare, how to be without explanation. How to stay. How to love without keeping score. They don’t ask who I was yesterday or who I’ll be tomorrow. They meet me exactly where I am.
If they could understand one thing, I’d want it to be this: they are already doing everything right. Their presence is enough. And in a world that keeps asking for more, they quietly remind me that simply being here can still mean everything.
