I’m Not Bored, I’m Unmoved

Daily writing prompt
What bores you?

Surface conversations bore me.

Not because I think I’m above them, but because I’ve spent too much of my life surviving beneath them.

Small talk has its place: weather, work, weekend plans, but when every interaction stays there, I start to feel invisible. Like we’re all performing versions of ourselves that are safe, polished, and emotionally distant.

What bores me isn’t simplicity, it’s pretending.

It’s conversations where no one risks anything real. Where we speak in summaries instead of stories. Where no one asks, “How are you, really?” and waits long enough for the answer.

I get bored of environments where image matters more than integrity. Where loyalty is spoken about but rarely practiced. Where people want access to your strength but are uncomfortable with your depth.

I get bored of noise.

Endless scrolling. Opinions without understanding. Reactions without reflection. It feels like everyone is talking, but no one is revealing anything.

What doesn’t bore me? Honesty.

Tell me what keeps you up at night. Tell me what you’re afraid to admit. Tell me where you feel torn between who you are and who you’re expected to be. That’s where I come alive.

Because I’ve learned that boredom is sometimes a signal. It’s my soul telling me I’m built for depth, not distraction. That I crave meaning, not motion. That I would rather sit in uncomfortable truth than entertain comfortable illusions.

I don’t need constant excitement, I need substance.

So, if I seem distant in shallow rooms, it’s not arrogance. It’s hunger. I’m waiting for something real to happen. And when it does, when someone drops the mask, when a conversation shifts from safe to sincere: I’m all in.

Because depth never bores me.

It feels like home.
