Letters2Life is a literary letters, hosted on WordPress.com (a service provided by Automattic Inc.). This policy explains, in straightforward language, what personal information is collected when you visit letters2life.com, how that information is used, and which third parties help keep the site running.

This page is not written in legalese. It is a plain account of what happens to your data here. If anything ever changes in a meaningful way, this policy will be updated and the date above will change.

2. Hosting & Infrastructure (WordPress.com / Automattic)

Letters2Life is hosted on WordPress.com. Automattic provides the servers, storage, and technical infrastructure that keep the site online and secure. As part of normal hosting operations, Automattic may collect server logs, IP addresses, browser and device details, and related technical information. This is used to run the service, prevent abuse, and keep the site functioning.

3. Jetpack Subscriptions & Contact Forms

Letters2Life uses Jetpack (also by Automattic) for email subscriptions and the site’s contact forms. When you subscribe to receive new letters by email, Jetpack collects and stores your email address on Automattic’s systems on my behalf. When you send a message through a contact form, the information you type into the form is also stored and delivered via Jetpack.

That information is used only to send you new posts and occasional site-related updates, or to respond to your message. Every email sent through Jetpack includes an unsubscribe link; you can stop receiving messages at any time by clicking that link.

4. Comments

Comments are disabled on Letters2Life. Because there is no comment section, the site does not collect any comment-related data (such as comment text, commenter names, or email addresses) and does not use comment spam-filtering services like Akismet for this site.

5. Analytics — Google Site Kit

Letters2Life uses Google Site Kit to connect the site to Google Analytics. Google Analytics collects anonymised usage data, such as which pages are visited, how long visitors stay, approximate location at a country or region level, the type of device and browser used, and how visitors arrived at the site (for example, from a search engine or another website).

This information is used to understand how people find and read the letters, and to improve the site’s content and performance. No personally identifiable information (such as your name or email address) is collected through Google Analytics on this site.

You can control analytics tracking through your browser settings or by using the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on, which is provided by Google.

This site uses cookies, which are small text files stored on your device, for a few specific purposes:

  • WordPress.com session and functionality cookies to help Automattic run the site and, where relevant, manage basic features like logged-in WordPress.com sessions.

The personal data most commonly collected through this site is your email address (if you subscribe) and whatever you choose to share in a contact form message. This information is used only to operate the site: to send new letters and site-related emails to subscribers, and to read and respond to messages sent through the contact page.

Subscription email addresses are kept for as long as you choose to stay subscribed. If you unsubscribe, your email address is no longer used for sending letters or updates. Messages sent via the contact form are kept for as long as reasonably needed to respond and keep a record of the conversation.

Automattic (through WordPress.com and Jetpack) retains data on its systems according to its own policies, which you can review in the Automattic Privacy Policy. Letters2Life does not sell, rent, or share your personal data with advertisers.

9. Your Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete your personal data, and in some cases to object to or limit certain types of processing.
